Abstract
This study aims to investigate the characteristics of Korean attitudes of elderly care as compared to that of other countries and reveal the generational differences of the attitudes of elderly care. For this purpose, this study examined the overall support for the elderly by the family responsibility using the data of 37 countries listed on the 2012 ISSP. At the same time, this study conducted a comparative analysis of the generational differences in the attitudes of elderly care. The main results are summarized as follows£ºFirst, it turned out that the degree of the defamilialization of Korean people`s attitudes of elderly care reached a level similar to that of Finland and Norway. However, the Korean people`s support for the elderly by the family responsibility was much lower than that of the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Germany. Second, there were very high differences in the Korean people`s attitudes of elderly care. Especially, there were greater generational differences in the attitudes of providing care services for elderly. Based on the above findings of the analysis, this study suggested a proposal of a policy.
